[ホストクラブの初めて – first time at hostclub]

4 07 2008

I think I already mentioned that my two roommates are sort of crazy, ね?well, the proof is they took me to a ホストクラブ (hostclub: place where hot-looking male or female hosts drink with you and give you conversation. you pay per hours and sometimes they will show you pictures of the boys or girls at the entrance so you can choose. most of them are 飲み放題 ”all you can drink” places. prices vary from 2000¥to 7000¥ for two hours.) 新宿 (しんじゅく) is full of them; specially kabukichou area.

apparently ホストクラブ are owned by yakuza, so naturally the boys that work in them are yakuza too – low grade ones, though. this I only learned after, when I had already told one of them “oh, so you have a tattoo? in japan isn’t that exclusively for yakuza?”. I suspect jenny was privately laughing her head off because she knew and didn’t tell me! tonight at dinner:

jen: “that guy must have been 25 ’cause he said he had a tiger and a dragon tattooed on his back. also, it proves two of the major yakuza clans (虎 and 竜)are now one. I heard the three families became one last month…” (she heard from a taiwanese guy of the taiwanese mafia)

me: “…”

korin: “yeahh… you’re really updated in your yakuza news.”

so that’s how it is basically.

the truth is we came close to giving up on ホストクラブ that night because the one we wanted to go to – cheap, nice and with funny guys – was closed. then the next was full, the following two where closed, another hadn’t open to the public yet and the last one didn’t exist. I thought it was a clear sign that it was not ホストクラブ night, but they wouldn’t listen to me, so we tried a last time and half succeeded. just for the record, in japan you’ve got to be over 20 to be legally able to drink alcohol and Area – hongkong girl from the other night – wasn’t still. so they told us she couldn’t have お酒 and we neither because we came together, which is excessive in my opinion. korin convinced them to make two groups: soft-drinking group and お酒drinking group. but when we went to sit together they said that was not possible. we tried separating the tables a few centimeters, they said two groups meant that we had to sit meters away. here korin got really angry and they finally allowed the 5cm distance. see why I said so many problems were a sign?

the first on the left was シニャ – whose real name wasn’t even close to that because they all use fake names and whose age wasn’t 20 because they always lie about that stuff. also, he was the one with the tattoos. ユラ is next, then キョウヤ, ダイゴ and セツナ.

they were fun after all. they taught us naughty words – or the equivalent to “naughty words” in japanese, which is like elementary school kids’ babble: “真っ暗して”って言った。 literaly it means “make it pitch black” – まっくらして. we imagined that we were saying something that had sexual connotations because they laughed a lot when we said it, but we sort of thought it’d be filthier than it turnes out to be. we were so disappointed when we searched it in the dictionary. I mean, how the hell could “let’s make it pitch black” compete with “let’s fuck up a storm” or “vamos a echar un polvo”, “vamos a follar”?! WTF, it even sounds romantic! why were they so excited?

after that we counterattacked. jen taught them “je suis pede” – sorry for the lack of accents, there are none in this keyboard. they repeated it so enthusiastically to one-another that we laughed our heads off. I was kind enough to tell them “pede” meant gay (おかま), but only after I had contented myself with their ridiculous display.

I’m leaving more photos here. I borrowed them from korin, so take a look at her [picasa albums] to see the rest if you want.

now thqat you mention it… there was a CM in which chiaki sempai appeared, but we were in a hurry when I saw it and nobody wanted to wait for me, so I couldn’t take a photo. I think it was at shibuya station, west exit…

そうだね、明子ちゃん?
the whole kabukichou district is very peculiar, it’s 80% hostclubs (male and female) and a couple of コンビニ and hotels.
tell etsuko I miss her classes! grammar here is too easy for me, but since I need 会話 practice I’m staying there for the moment. also, tell her I’m the one with the highest kanji level by far after the chinese people (of course). most students know about 10 kanji.
chuuuu!!!
