ok, I thought I should inform of the requests I got so far – that way you’ll know if a song has already been asked for or at least what to expect in the next days.

yes? no?
kitto daijoubu
typhoon generation
fight song

cry for you
te agerou
take me far away
song for me
yume de ii kara

the first four I’ll try to have them by wednesday (though it depends on the difficulty of the lyrics)

ahhhh… tomorrow I have to wake up at six to get to class… and I have a long day of classes ahead. why am I still here? ¬.¬
oh! and I’m alone at home with my flatmate’s dog (BIG dog), who likes to sleep in my bedroom. right now she’s getting very nervous and my flatmate shows no signs of coming back… oh man… no sleep for me tonight. what should I do? I’m a cats person through and through!

*current mood: slightly worried*

[雨の音を聴きながら、思想界に踏み出した] new LJ

31 10 2008

I opened an LJ account some time ago with the intention of starting the blog anew there – at the time I had received a ban from wordpress for a post where I uploaded some music and this blog was frozen. I was a little pissed off because I had other posts like that one and nobody had sent me a ban before. in the end I had to delete the post if I wanted to keep writing here and so everything went back to normal. but in the meantime I had opened the LJ account. now that I can use the blog again it seems a little sad to delete it, so instead of closing here I will try to maintain both.

the LJ blog will be dedicated to lyric translation, writings and a mini japanese course I have been wanting to post for some time. the lyric trans will be crossposted here, so the few people who come to check on those don’t find the place empty and full of dust. but apart from that the two will be separated. the only thing the have in common is actually me.

the truth is I no longer knew what this blog was about. it was great while I used it as a means of communication with my friends when I was in japan. before that I focused on reviewing dorama and now I have the translation thing and some comments on my life in rome. I wanted something simple and straightforward, with a single aim – so as to help put some order into my thoughts – and I didn’t want to leave an empty, unused account in LJ.

the result is [nanachan’s blog]・雨の音を聴きながら、思想界に踏み出した the subtitle meaning “while I listened to the sound of rain I stepped into the realm of thought”. I translate it only for the sake of curious people :9

fictional character-obama conversation conjured up by aaron sorkin

10 10 2008

this is an imaginary conversation acclaimed creator of “the west wing” aaron sorkin came up with upon demand of NYtimes op-ed columnist maureen dowd. the virtual dialogue features barack obama and fictional president bartlet, from sorkin’s series. it’s supposed to take place after one of the zillions pf confrontations the two candidates have attended in the past months. I must admit I am completely lost here – it’s been a long time since I last watched TV and the running campaign for president in america’s details wouldn’t even reach me at home if I had one. nevertheless, I enjoyed “the west wing” when it was on in spain and always found the dialogues mind-boggling – I wondered how much coffee and sleeplessness it took the script-writers to come up with such brilliant stuff. so I’m sharing mainly for that reason.

if you have never seen the series – I recommend you to give it a try when your neurones can spare the time and effeort it takes to follow the plot – I’ll just tell you bartlet is played by martin sheen. the rest of the surroundings are irrelevant to the conversation.

this is just an excerpt, for the whole article go here.

OBAMA I appreciate your sense of humor, sir, but I really could use your advice.

BARTLET Well, it seems to me your problem is a lot like the problem I had twice.

OBAMA Which was?

BARTLET A huge number of Americans thought I thought I was superior to them.

OBAMA I mean, how did you overcome that?

BARTLET I won’t lie to you, being fictional was a big advantage.

OBAMA What do you mean?

BARTLET I’m a fictional president. You’re dreaming right now, Senator.

OBAMA I’m asleep?

BARTLET Yes, and you’re losing a ton of white women.

OBAMA Yes, sir.

BARTLET I mean tons.

OBAMA I understand.

BARTLET I didn’t even think there were that many white women.

OBAMA I see the numbers, sir. What do they want from me?

BARTLET I’ve been married to a white woman for 40 years and I still don’t know what she wants from me.

OBAMA How did you do it?

BARTLET Well, I say I’m sorry a lot.

OBAMA I don’t mean your marriage, sir. I mean how did you get America on your side?

BARTLET There again, I didn’t have to be president of America, I just had to be president of the people who watched “The West Wing.”

OBAMA That would make it easier.

BARTLET You’d do very well on NBC. Thursday nights in the old “ER” time slot with “30 Rock” as your lead-in, you’d get seven, seven-five in the demo with a 20, 22 share — you’d be selling $450,000 minutes.

an interesting designers project in rome, located in hip, low-key trastevere, proposes an utopic encounter between art and fashion. working side by side with different creators of the italian panorama, [temporaryLOVE] opens a new collection every now and then. the pieces (all for sale) range between clothing and accesories, to pictures.

the small shop is exquisitely decorated, matching each exhibition – for every time they open a new collection they inaugurate with an “apperitivo”: the hidden streets gets crowded with people drinking wine and biting on sweets and chocolate. the atmosphere gets very intimate and the exhibition is always worth taking a look at. the last one was entitled [GODsaveTHEpop], featuring works by [elioVARUNA] and [DeSiDeRiO].

you can find more information on this amazing proposal in their website or their myspace.

for those visiting rome, you can easily get to [temporaryLOVE] from piazza di santa maria in trastevere. the actual address is:

via dell’arco di san calisto 9 (beside piazza san calisto).

[where is brian?part2]

30 07 2008

the first time I wrote about the [brian joke] I forgot to mention that we actually lived with brian! in fact, my host family was initially composed by miki – 料理神様 cooking goddess and the best person I’ve met in japan so far -, jen and korin who were also doing home-stay here at 大崎 house and whom you already now from previous posts, and… miki’s canadian boyfriend BRIAN! now you know why the stupid joke stuck…

so, where is brian? brian is back in canada… or on a bus on his way to his hometown. さびしいよ。。。we already miss you brian! who am I going to fight over kimchi with!! no more “you ate all the kimchi, brian! how are you going to make up for it now?!” or “miki! brian finished the two types of kimchi already and ate all the spicy chips you bought for us! I didn’t even get a chance to try them!”

we threw a small farewell party at [footNIKS], an english pub close to 大崎 station. neal – former roomate of brian and a real englishman – and his girlfriend were there, sabrina was there too – a girl from luxemburg that had been at miki’s home-staying before. she now lives on her own and works here, I’m sooo jealous! oh, and she speaks spanish! so I got to use my mother tongue at last! previous to that my longest conversation in spanish had consisted in telling one of my italian classmates the recipe of spanish omelet…

after the meal we went to a small karaoke in the area (same as that time with jen and korin). I discovered neal is the best person to go to karaoke with – sort of the opposite to brian (sorry brian, but it’s true). though he sort of ruined my song… I chose [gimmick game] – I was thrilled to find they already had it in such a small cheap place! – and then neal tried to sing along with me even though he could barely read the japanese lyrics and hadn’t the slightest idea of how the music went… I should probably mention that when neal starts singing, you can still hear him from the karaoke entrance, even with the doors closed… so, yeah, I didn’t really get to sing my song… next time I’ll knock neal out before my turn comes.

what else have I been doing lately? uhmmm…

oh! I went to tsutaya – equivalent of FNAC in japan – looking for [thePILLOWS]’s last album and while searching the jpop section stumbled upon… the johnny’s shelf! they do not mix with the rest of the jpop, that’s johnny’s for you…

I found [murakamiHARUKI] novels for 105¥ each, and hardback!!! in a second-hand bookstore, of course; but then, I always buy my books second-hand, so it doesn’t make a difference. the name of the store is [bookOFF], it’s a chain store with shops around all tokyo. this one was in 戸越銀座 (togoshi ginza), my neighbourhood. I guess the shinjuku one will have more things. can’t wait to got there!

we visited 浅草 (asakusa) briefly – basically we were joining brian and miki for dinner. the sensouji temple can be found there – after walking a never-ending street of souvenir shop after souvenir shop… asakusa is souvenir land for the average tourist visiting tokyo, there is nothing remotely traditional-looking that you cannot find there. I couldn’t get into the temple, ’cause it was already close, but I took some pics of the outside – I’ll update the post when they’re ready. the entrance is 雷門 (kaminari mon, or the lightning gate). [kaminari] is one of my favourite japanese words :) それで嬉しい!as an afterthought, apart from traditional souvenirs I found an idol shop with posters, photographs, uchiwa, member-cards and the like. yeah, this is japan…

today I skipped school because I was tired and meant to finish editing the fucking hanabi-day video! as it happens my computer decided to collapse while I was in the process of saving the project for the first time. I rebooted and of course lost all changes… I was so depressed that I started roaming the web for 嵐 videos – mainly to collaborate in kat’s post of 嵐 solos – when I found this thing about an ohno scandal. for what I gathered, one or two days ago a japanese tabloid published some compromising photos of oh-chan presumably high on pot, doing a threesome with some girls. this is supposed to have happened 3 years ago though. the pictures and details of the scandal can be found in many 嵐 related blogs and livejournals, these are the ones I checked:

[uwasakoLJ] article, details and pics.

[crunchyrollOHNOgroup] again more pics

[matsujunkie] theory about tampered photos. let’s blame photoshop!

[juntoshi] info on how to support oh-chan

the thing got out of hand in no time, with AU threatening to take down oh-chan’s part in the last CMs, talk about changing the olympics song (風の向うへ “kaze no muko e”, from 嵐) and so on… I really hope nothing bad comes out of this – other arashi members have had scandals before and they are still one of the most popular jpop groups in an out of japan. my personal view – as that of most fans – is that I don’t care what they do in their free time. they’re just boys and still young, so it doesn’t surprise me if they want to have fun. as I say, its their private life – and they don’t get much of that. but they should be careful not to take pictures with strangers that can later on use them against them… that’s common sense.

24 07 2008

you have probably already heard about the other days earthquake in 岩手県 (iwate-ken, north of honshu). the damages have been pretty bad up there, with whole roads tumbling down and buildings and infrastructures cracking up.

here in tokyo though, you could only feel it mildly, since we were so far from the epicentre. I was in bed, lying on my stomach watching [letters from iwojima] on my laptop when suddenly the whole bed started rocking one way and the other. it felt as if a titan were descending the stairs (just by my room) with special violence and making everything shake. when I realised what was happening I just looked for falling things around me and since nothing dangerous was leaving its place I decided I would just enjoy. it lasted about a minute – that can seem long when you are watching out for the walls to start cracking up.

the feeling was… well actually, it was like being in a massage bed or something. it was cool!!! maybe I shouldn’t say this after all the damages in 岩手-県… but I enjoyed it, that’s the truth. so when my friends asked me if I was alright, if anything bad had happened – I hadn’t watched the news yet, I had no idea of what had happened – and I though “earthquake? yeah,it rocked!”

anyway, I’ve experienced my first 地震, now my life is complete. >.<

3 07 2008

hi there!

I’m continuing yesterday’s post.

the day of my arrival, my two crazy roommates kidnapped me and took me to a night-club called [PBP] – that stands for “pink big pig” (you’ll see what I mean by clicking on the link). it’s the sort of place where you can eat and drink as much as you want while you listen to live music performances – the difference is that you do it under the nose of a “pink big revolving pig” . apparently some japanese friends of my roommates were playing that night.

their names are takurou and youhei, you can see them here:

I’ve tried to upload a better one, but for some reason it doesn’t work…

area and joyce, two girls form hongkong where there too. we took pictures with the boys – or I should say I took pictures of korin jumping on takuro… the poor thing was so embarrassed at first, but korin didn’t give a fuck, she kept kissing him on the cheek and asking the rest of us to take a photo. yohei is not so japanese though, he actually enjoys receiving attention from girls. they both sang horribly in my opinion, but don’t tell jen or korin, cause they’ll probably kill me…

here’s a song from youhei [kuruoshiku]

and from takurou [うたた寝ふれーばー] I don’t know how to pronounce that kanji, so I just wrote it in japanese, sorry :9

I chose both songs based on korin and jen’s criteria because I haven’t had time to listen to the whole CD yet, so I don’t really know if they’re the best ones…

after the songs a guy that did magic tricks came to our table – he sort of reminded me of yuho… but he was really good at magic – unlike yuho. he did some amazing things and ended up making balloon animals at korin’s request – yes, she never gives up. I don’t have a picture of the cute kuma-chan that he did for jen, or korin’s fake french poodle – which was suppossed  to be a lion – but there’s a picture of the pretty poor attempt at a totoro:

yes, that white-blue thingy is supposed to be a [totoro]– for those who don’t know how a real totoro looks like, click on the previous link. actually, I felt sorry for the guy when joyce requested a totoro… but japanese people don’t really know how to refuse, do they?

something that really surprised me from this place is that male waiters kneeled before you when coming to your table O.O I was thinking “yo, what are you doing on the floor man?”, but it seems in these type of places it’s normal. also, the bathrooms had a dressing room where you could change your make-up – I mean, for goodness’ sake, it even had cotton swabs and a hair drier!!!

oh! and toilets are like pieces of engineering. they are harder to understand than quantic physics and have more buttons than this keyboard… and when you sit on them it warms up your bum. I find it disturbing, as if the toilet was cleverer than me… -.-u

other pics of the night. the japanese guy being kissed by two crazy chicks is takurou. on the last pic, from left to right: me, jen, joyce, area and korin.
